Questions?

  • Real Talk: The skills and insights you gain from therapy do not end at the last session, you carry them with you for the rest of your life when you commit yourself to the process.

When you book your appointment, you are giving yourself a powerful gift. You are claiming your dedication to transforming your life because you’re willing to invest in yourself.

It’s not easy work and we won’t tell you that it is, but what we can tell you is that incredible things happen when we value ourselves and our healing.

    Our current rates are:

    Licensed Rate | Associate Rate

    Diagnostic Psychotherapy Intake (60 minutes) — $225 | $140

    Psychotherapy Follow-Up (50 minutes) — $200 | $125

    90-minute Individual EMDR Session — $320 | $200

Occasionally, Tall Oaks will have clinical interns who our therapists closely supervise that offer quality therapy for a significantly reduced price. We use a Pay What You Can model for services provided by clinical interns. Schedule a consult to talk more about this option!

  • The short answer:

No, we do not accept most insurances.

    We do accept CT Medicaid/Husky.

    The long answer:

Insurance companies place a megaton of stipulations around your care and how it’s provided to you; They can be pretty damn nosy. When it comes to mental health, confidentiality, support, and getting the help you need, our practice can’t get behind that.

Not taking insurance allows you and your therapist both the time and energy to focus on you without a big system breathing down your necks about what diagnosis you have and how many sessions they think you need (or don’t need).

If you would like to work with us an out-of-network provider, upon request, we can submit claims to your insurance on your behalf so you may receive reimbursement from your insurance company for a percentage of our session rate. Session fees are to be paid at the time of service.

*It’s important to note that providing a this courtesy of submitting claims to your insurance requires a documented diagnosis to be shared with your insurance.

    Bonus food for thought:

Therapy has the ability to be more than just a weekly bill on your bank statement if you allow it. What would you discover if you truly committed to diving head-on into the discomfort of being fully seen? It can be scary, we know. We implore you to consider what might lay waiting for you on the other side of the time, money, and energy you spend on self-discovery and growth.

  • If you have a PPO or POS insurance plan, you can likely receive some reimbursement when you see one of our therapists as an out-of-network provider.

To find out what your insurance may cover, contact your insurance and ask if you have out-of-network mental health coverage.

You may also want to ask:

    • What your deductible is

    • What your co-insurance payment will be

    • If you need authorization for your visits

    • How many visits you get per year

Upon request, Tall Oaks will submit claims to your insurance on your behalf and direct reimbursement be issued to you. Reimbursement is not guaranteed and it is your responsibility to communicate with your insurance regarding reimbursement concerns. The full session fee is expected at the time of service.

You can also use this free online HIPAA compliant calculator to do a quick check before calling your insurance to confirm.

  • Our clients engage with their therapists both in-person and online.

Though, our practice strongly recommends in-person sessions as we have found that they eliminate most distractions —asking “can you hear me now?” every 3 minutes, wondering if someone is frozen or just listening intently— and offer a deeper interpersonal connection.

  • Take your time to read through our website. If you sense that one of our therapists may be a good fit based on what you are reading, you can schedule yourself a free 15-minute consultation using our online scheduler. During your free consultation, you can ask more about how they work as a therapist, or any other questions you may have that are specific to you.

You’ll also be able to share what’s going on for you and the therapist can share their ideas about how they can help you. It can be helpful to think of the first few sessions as trying out the waters together. While our practice is confident in their therapists’ abilities, therapy is not a one-size-fits-all scenario. We am open to conversations about how your therapist can best serve you, even if that means assisting you in finding a better fit. During the sessions, you’ll be able to see how you feel working with your therapist. What’s most important to us is that you find someone who you feel is the right fit for you. We can explore that together.

  • Ah, the age-old question.

You might be wondering about how long therapy will take because you are currently struggling and want relief fast. We get it, and if this is true for you, we want you to know that on average, new clients start seeing small amounts of growth after the first 3-5 sessions. By that point, they feel a little more calm and hopeful that healing is possible.

The total duration of therapy varies from client to client. Some of our clients find 8-16 weeks to be enough to increase self-awareness of patterns that are holding them back. While other clients feel more supported by longer-term therapy. We will work together to find the length of time that works for you.

  • If something feels overwhelming or even terrifying to discuss, that's actually very normal. It can often feel difficult to talk about what’s burdening us. During your sessions, it will always be up to you if you feel ready to talk about something or not. It’s your therapist’s job to give you space to slowly start to work through the tough stuff. Gradually and at a pace that feels comfortable to you, you can share what you feel ready to share. You can also share with them that you are nervous to open up about something and you can talk about that too. Whatever is present for you. Whatever you are going through. Bring that to the session and you can explore that together.

  • Schedule a free consultation, of course! You will meet via Zoom for about 15 minutes, taking time to discuss what you've been struggling with and answer any questions you may have. You can schedule yourself using the online scheduler today by clicking the button on this page.
